Fun run held to remember slain Cary mother

CARY, N.C. — The family of slain Cary mother of two Nancy Cooper honored her on Saturday with a fun run in her honor.

The 1.8 mile “Nancy’s Butterfly Memorial Run” was at Symphony Lake at the Koka Booth Amphitheater. It was held a day prior to the one year anniversary of Cooper’s death.

A portion of the proceeds will go to Interact of Wake County – a local nonprofit that supports domestic violence victims.

Garry and Donna Rentz, of Edmonton, Alberta, helped start Nancy's Butterfly Fund, in memory of their daughter, to benefit women and their children in abusive situations.

Cary police have said that Cooper, who was found dead in an undeveloped subdivision last July, was a victim of "domestic violence of the worst kind" and have alleged that her husband, Brad Cooper, is responsible for her death. He had denied the allegation.
