Friend: Good Samaritan hit helping dog always thinking of others

Chloe Dorin has known Stephanie Wilson for six years and has always known her friend to be a giving person.

“She has worked not only as an animal rescuer, but as a volunteer doula, a volunteer rape crisis counselor, and volunteer domestic violence counselor,” said Dorin. “Her heart is driven by a love of the underdog.”

Wilson was hit by an SUV more than a week ago while trying to assist a dog that had also been struck by a car. She’s been in critical condition at a local hospital ever since.

“She has always put all of her time and her energy into helping anyone or anything in a worse situation than she has,” said Dorin.

Wilson, the owner of two cats and three dogs, is being viewed by many as a selfless hero. Friends said that even from the hospital bed, Wilson is only thinking about others even though she is in need of help herself.

“When they took her tube out a day or two ago…[the doctors] kind of talked to her about what happened and she said ‘alright, I have to go. I have a lot of things to do’ and then asked her mom if she needed anything,” said Dorin.

Dorin said that Wilson’s recovery is expected to take about a year, but doctors said that she is progressing nicely. Her friends are watching after her pets and will try to get permission to bring one to the hospital.
