Friday's mild temps to disappear quickly after front passes
Shoppers will get to enjoy mild temperatures Friday as highs climb into the mid-60s during the afternoon, but a winter blast will arrive in the Triangle overnight, making jackets a necessity this weekend.

High temperatures should hover around 50 degrees both Saturday and Sunday, and overnight lows could dip into the mid-20s Sunday morning, WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said.
"All those shoppers were greeted by temperatures in the 30s this morning," Gardner said. "It's going to warm up nicely for those who decide to head out later today, but by tonight and Saturday, the cold air behind our next cold front will be here in force."
Temperatures were near 60 degrees at 11 a.m.
The front won't drop any rain as it passes through central and eastern North Carolina Friday night, but it will bring breezy northwesterly winds and bitter wind chills.
That breeze will keep temperatures from warming much at all during the day Saturday.
"We're going to struggle to get out of the 40s, only seeing a 10 to 15 degree difference from our morning low," Gardner said. "Those winds and clear skies will also set the stage for the coldest morning of the season Sunday."
Temperatures will dip into the mid-20s across much of the area, making widespread frost a likelihood.
Temperatures will moderate Monday and Tuesday, climbing back to near 60 degrees, and rain chances will arrive Tuesday when another front pushes through the region.
