CLAYTON, N.C. — A Fremont man was charged Friday with running a "chop shop" in Johnston County only weeks after Sampson County authorities charged him in a similar operation there.

Lamont Andre McKoy, 41, was charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle, attempting to obtain property by false pretense and possession of stolen property. He was being held in the Johnston County jail under a $1 million bond.

A manager of Source Recycling in Clayton called police to report that a man suspected of stealing trailers from the facility last year was at the facility Friday trying to sell a trailer that the manager thought had been stolen elsewhere, police said.

Police determined that the trailer had been stolen in South Carolina earlier that day.

When he was arrested, McKoy was out on bond from a recent arrest in Sampson County, where authorities had broken up a chop shop south of Clinton. He also was charged in 2013 with operating a chop shop in Franklin County.
