LOUISBURG, N.C. — Franklin County adopted a water shortage ordinance Tuesday night.

It gives the county the right to impose mandatory water restrictions when water levels warrant.

Kerr Lake, the county’s main water source, is at 293 feet. If it drops 3 feet more, new mandatory water restrictions will take effect.

County water customers would then be banned from non-essential water use such as watering lawns, washing cars and filling swimming pools.
