Four plead guilty in botched drug deal that left Cary teen dead

Katherine Burdick-Crow, 16, of Cary, was hit on Lawrence Road near Walnut Street on June 26 and died at WakeMed. Cary police said the Green Hope High School student had been robbed, and during a subsequent altercation, she fell from a 2003 Ford F-150 pickup as the thieves fled the scene.

Jourdan Chanquion Mack, 20, of Rambling Hill Drive in Morrisville, pleaded guilty Tuesday to common law robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery and was sentenced to 14 to 35 months in prison. He was given credit for the five months he has already been in jail.

Joshua Odell Simmons, 17, of Autumn Day Drive in Morrisville, pleaded guilty last Friday to involuntary manslaughter, common law robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery. He was sentenced to 16 to 29 months in prison, followed by two years on probation.

Simmons was driving the pickup when Burdick-Crow fell, police said.

Beth Strange, 18, of Fallborough Court in Morrisville, and Abijah James Masse, 17, of Narrow Leaf Drive in Morrisville, both pleaded guilty on Friday to common law robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery.

Masse was sentenced to six to 17 months in prison, while Strange was sentenced to six months. Both were given credit for the five months they have spent in jail. Both also must serve two years and perform 100 hours of community service.

Authorities said Masse was a student at Green Hope High, and Mack graduated from there in 2013. Simmons was a student at Panther Creek High School, and Strange graduated from there in May.
