Four Durham schools burglarized

Durham Public Schools spokeswoman Chrissy Deal said authorities believe the same person burglarized Hillside High School, Rogers-Herr Middle School, Hope Valley Elementary School and Pearsontown Elementary School, searching for petty cash in each school's cafeteria.

"He caused a lot of damage not to get away with any more than he did," Deal said in an email to WRAL News.

Police said $175 was stolen from Hope Valley Elementary and Roger-Herr Middle. The other two schools had no cash on hand, Deal said.

"Feel free to report that message to anyone else thinking of breaking in – chances are good you won’t find any money at all," she said.

All of the schools are within 4 miles of each other. There are other schools in the area, but they weren't targeted.

Maintenance crews worked early Monday to repair the damage and secure areas so classes could proceed without interruption at the four schools, she said.

Video from security cameras at the four schools has been turned over to Durham police, but no arrests have been made.
