Four-day food festival coming to Durham
Taste will feature everything from cocktail dinners to burger smashdowns.

It’s no secret: The Triangle has a remarkable food scene, and, remarkably, somehow it just keeps getting better. You can celebrate it at Taste, a four-day food festival happening April 23-26 in Durham that, earlier this month, was one of eight Southern food festivals previewed in the Huffington Post.
Tickets are on sale now at tastetheevent.com. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina.
Taste features one James Beard winner, Andrea Reusing, and three 2015 semifinalists: Matt Kelly of Mateo, Lionel Vatinet of La Farm Bakery and the makers of Foggy Ridge Cider.
Also participating? News & Observer Restaurant of the Year Gocciolina and Food & Wine’s People’s Best New Chef 2014 (Southeast) Kim Floresca and Daniel Ryan of [ONE].
Here’s the full Taste lineup:
April 23: Grand Taste Experience – Taste 40 of the best dishes and beverages this area has to offer at the The Durham Armory. Participants include Watts Grocery, La Farm Bakery, Gocciolina, Acme, [ONE], Basan, Juju, Harvest 18 and G2B. Purchase VIP tickets to gain access to a reception beforehand hosted by Andrea Reusing of Lantern and The Durham.
April 24: Foggy Ridge Cider Dinner - Ricky Moore of Saltbox Seafood Joint and John Eisensmith of Six Plates prepare an elegant four-course dinner in the beautiful Sarah P. Duke Gardens paired with The New York Times’ “America’s Favorite Cider,” Foggy Ridge Cider.
April 25: Burger Smashdown - The best burger makers in the Triangle – from Buns, Al’s Burger Shack, Tyler’s Taproom, Only Burger and Mattie B’s Public House – face off at the Burger Smashdown at Fullsteam Brewery, which is providing the beer. Bring the whole family!
April 25: Artisan Cocktail Dinner - Durham’s best bartenders – representing Bar Lusconi, Alley Twenty Six, Revolution, Piedmont and NanaSteak – pair creative cocktails with heavy hors d’oeuvres by Piedmont’s Ben Adams and Revolution’s Jim Anile. Plus: a DJ and dancing.
April 26: At the Roots of North Carolina Dinner - Amy Tornquist of Watts Grocery (whose family has been in North Carolina for hundreds of years!) and Marcie Cohen Ferris, author of The Edible South: The Power of Food and the Making of an American Region, tell the story of our state’s food history. This will be a three-course meal with wine pairings from Piedmont Wine Imports.
