Conflicts around the world have Fort Liberty's commander talking about his soldiers' training.

Lt. General Chris Donahue held a round table meeting on Thursday morning. He says the future of the soldiers under his command and taking care of their families are top priorities -- even discussing the need to build a new high school on post.

He says this is not your grandfather's Army. Artificial Intelligence and technology are taking over the battlefield. Things like unmanned systems, electronic warfare, one-way attack munitions and drones aren't the way of the future: No, they're being used right now in the present.

This is what Fort Liberty is all about. High intensity training that develops a force that can fight and win anywhere in the world.

"You can't hide. How are you going to be able to move quickly, protect yourself, survive, find your advisory, neutralize your advisory and continue to move and accomplish what you need to?" said Donahue.

In addition to training soldier, the commander says another top priority is taking care of their families.

Donahue is pushing to build a state-of-the-art STEM high school on post.

"It will be outside the gate. There will be no extra check to come on or anything else. The other thing is, it's going to be a STEM school," he said.

When asked what the challenge is for the coming year, the Donahue said two things: First of all, he wants to make sure that the soldiers here are ready to fight and win. Secondly, he also wants to make sure their families are well taken care of.

Donahue says building the new E.E. Smith High School on federal land isn't a done deal. But, he's working with local and state leaders to try to make it happen.
