Fort Bragg soldier charged in fatal wreck

One person was killed in a vehicle wreck on Morganton Road Wednesday night.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A Fort Bragg soldier has been charged in a wreck on Morganton Road that killed a Fayetteville woman Wednesday night, Fayetteville police said Thursday..

The wreck happened about 8:30 p.m. when a black Honda Civic traveling at a high rate of speed crashed into a tan Volkswagen Passat traveling in the opposite direction, The crash was between Bonanza and Westlake drives.

The driver of the Volkswagen, Olivia Dejesus Cardona, 50, was pronounced dead at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. A 6-year-old girl who was riding in the Volkswagen was not hurt.

The Honda driver, identified as Brandon Jay Faris, 20, of Fort Bragg, was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, and careless and reckless driving. He was not injured in the crash.
