Tommy Chester Mann Sr., 88, who served as an alderman and mayor of Sanford in the 1950s and 60s, died last Friday, the Sanford Herald reported.

Mann was born in Jonesboro and served in the Air Force during World War II.

He is survived by Sarah, his wife of 69 years, three children, Tommy Jr. , Randy and Peggy Hendley; two brothers Lindsay Mann, of Greenville, S.C., and Shelton Mann, of Orlando, Fla.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
