Former Hillsborough police officer pleads guilty to indecent liberties with a minor
A former Hillsborough police officer pleaded guilty in March to two counts of indecent liberties with a minor nearly two years after he was fired by the town.

James Allen Riley Jr., 62, was fired on July 23, 2013, three days after the town placed him on administrative leave following an internal investigation. Town officials said they received a complaint about possible misconduct involving Riley in April 2013.
The town conducted surveillance on Riley nine times through July 2013, and potential criminal conduct was observed on July 19, officials said.
The orange County District Attorney's Office and State Bureau of Investigation took over the investigation on July 20, 2013, and charges were filed against Riley in April 2014.
After pleading last month, Riley received a 20-to 33-month sentence and was ordered to give up his law enforcement certification. Riley was also sentenced to probation, community service and placed on the state's Sex Offender Registry.
According to the registry, the victim's age was 13.
Riley's use of his position as an officer, even while working off-duty, was cited as an aggravating circumstance by the court in determining a sentence, officials said.
Riley was originally hired as a Hillsborough police officer in January 2004.
