Former Halifax Community College employees charged in thefts
An administrative assistant and two former employees at Halifax Community College are facing criminal charges following an investigation into the theft of iPads from the school, the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said Thursday.

Former Dean of Curriculum Harriet Morrison, 62, of Rutherglen, Va., former instructional designer Shauna Jones, 33, of Roanoke Rapids, and Morrison's former administrative assistant, Tuwana Jones, 47, of Roanoke Rapids, are each charged with felonious larceny by employee and possession of stolen property.
The arrests stem from an investigation by the State Auditor’s Office in June 2012 that revealed discrepancies in inventory at the college. The audit led to an internal investigation, and the findings were turned over to the Weldon Police Department, which contacted the sheriff’s office.
Nine iPads purchased to help the college update its method of instruction were stolen. Deputies said five of the tablets, worth about $500 each, have been recovered.
The women were held under $1,000 bonds and are scheduled for a Dec. 11 court appearance.
