Former FBI agent to head NC public safety agency
Gov. Pat McCrory removed the interim tag Wednesday from Frank Perry's title as secretary of the Department of Public Safety.

McCrory turned to Perry, a retired FBI agent, three weeks ago to take the helm at DPS after the sudden resignation of Secretary Kieran Shanahan.
"Frank Perry has dedicated his life to public safety, primarily through his distinguished FBI career,” McCrory said in a statement. "He brings a wealth of real-world experience to the helm of DPS in addition to his dedication to public service.”
Perry most recently served as commissioner of the state Division of Law Enforcement, where he oversaw the operations of Division of Emergency Management, the State Highway Patrol, the Division of Alcohol Law Enforcement, Butner Public Safety and the State Capitol Police.
He spent 22 years with the FBI and also managed the fraud, waste and abuse division in the State Auditor's Office and served as director of education for the North Carolina Ethics Commission.
