Is it pumpkin beer season already?

Brueprint Brewing Company, out of Apex, has their new Pumpkin Spiced Edinbrue brewed and loaded, leading the charge into fall seasonals.

"We have to have them ready as soon as people want to drink them," Head Brewer Brad Fogelman said on the 919 Beer Podcast. "In this area, people want to start drinking them (on) that first cool day of the year. ... With those cool days, people start thinking about pumpkin."

Fogelman said the pumpkin-spiced brew is made with their year-round Scotch Ale as a base. Toss in cinnamon, nutmeg, all spice, pumpkin and vanilla beans, pack it in orange cans, and you're ready for a cool night near a warm bonfire.

The Scotch Ale makes for a good base, Fogelman said, because it can stand up to more flavors, even though many brewers don't use something so rich and malty.

"We felt like it could support those spices without being overwhelmed by the spices, and also without the spices being underwhelming," "So, it just had a nice balance to it, and it fit very, very well."

So, if you're still knocking back IPAs (or pouring glasses of rosé) while summer days begin to wane, know that the cool days of big brews and spices are right around the corner.
