I was at Target over the weekend on a fruitless search for generic infant pain reliever when I saw something I'd never seen before: a dog sitting in a shopping cart.

It wasn't a big dog, but it wasn't tiny either. It pretty much filled up the front part of the cart where kids usually sit.

At first, I thought it was cute. My five-year-old missed it. So I had her run over to the cart to take a look. That was nice.

Then I kind of thought about it. Would I want my eight-month-old sitting in that very same seat after the dog gets out of it? Not really.

I know very well that all kinds of gunky stuff (kids included) go in shopping carts - leaking packages of raw meat, crushed up Goldfish from the kid before, pickled pigs feet. That's why I usually carry one of those shopping cart seat covers with me for the baby.

Still, while I'll admit that this is not exactly a logical jump, to me, a dog seems to cross the line.

Thoughts?
