Foot chase nets domestic violence suspect
A man wanted on domestic violence charges was arrested after a foot chase by a Halifax County sheriff's deputy and Roanoke Rapids police officers Wednesday.
Posted — UpdatedDeputy C. Scott recognized Jermaine Samuel Bowser, 30, while patrolling the South Rosemary area, authorities said. Scott confirmed that Bowser was wanted on warrants for domestic violence and non-payment of child support.
Bowser fled when Scott approached him, but the deputy and police officers caught him hiding behind a shed on Willow Street, authorities said.
Bowser faces one count of assault on a female and two counts each of non-payment of child support, domestic violence and resisting, delaying or obstructing an officer.
He was denied bond for the domestic violence charges and given a $500 cash bond for nonpayment of child support and a $1,000 secured bond on the charges of resisting arrest. He was scheduled to appear in court Sept. 8 and 30.
According to state Department of Correction records, Bowser was released on March 9 after serving a little more than 2 months on three counts of assault on a female. DOC records show he served nearly three years for violating his parole stemming from four convictions for assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and one for discharging a firearm into property in 1999.
