DURHAM, N.C. — A transmission fluid spill on westbound Interstate 40 Tuesday afternoon caused delays in rush-hour traffic.

Authorities said the transmission fell off a dump truck, and another car ran over the transmission, spilling fluid over the highway near the interchange with N.C. Highway 54.

The ramp to westbound I-40 had to be closed at the interchange, and a lane of traffic was closed as a haz-mat team was brought in to clear the fluid from the roadway.

No injuries were reported.
