Flooding closes Vance roads, threatens Kerr Lake campsites

Nutbush, Anderson Creek and Jacksontown roads were closed because of high water.

"This is crazy. I've never seen it like this high ever," a woman said.

"Sometimes the water goes down a lot, and sometimes it goes up high, and I guess this is what it looks like when it goes up high," a man said.

Kerr Lake campsites are closed for the season, but state work crews had to come in over the weekend to remove 50 to 60 electrical boxes to prevent any damage from flooding. The lake is 8 feet above normal levels.

When the water recedes, the crews will return to bolt the electrical boxes back to the posts at campsites and clean up any damage from the flooding.

Meanwhile, water levels at Falls Lake in Wake County rose 6 feet over the past week. Although Beaver Creek Marina is under water, park rangers say no problems have been reported.

"What we have here is trees submerged that would normally be above ground," fisherman Ellis McCoy said. "We have a dock that's normally 2 to 3 feet above ground, and this is just not typical for this area."
