ZEBULON, N.C. — The Zebulon firefighters who pulled a dog from a frozen pond last week will be honored by PETA for their heroism.

The animal rights organization is sending a framed award, a box of vegan chocolates and a copy of "The Engine 2 Diet," a cookbook of plant-based meals to keep them in fighting shape.

Brody, an 8-year-old terrier, was playing outdoors with his owner, Bryanna Schug when he fell through thin ice. Bryanna ran home, called 911 and firefighters used life vests to tie two ladders together to reach him.
