Firefighter charged with setting tire fire
A Columbus County firefighter and two other men have been charged with setting fire to a tire store last month, authorities said Tuesday.

Daniel Wayne Scott, 19, a volunteer with the Klondyke-Chadbourn Fire & Rescue Department, was charged with arson resulting in serious injury and conspiracy to commit arson. His stepbrother, Michael Cody Clamp, 18, and a third man, Richard Blake Turner, 20, also have been charged in the case.
A Carolina Tire store in Chadbourn went up in flames on Sept. 21 and burned for four days. An estimated 30,000 tires were in the store at the time, and 150 firefighters from 36 fire departments battled the fire.
One firefighter broke his ankle during the incident, another suffered a heat-related injury and two had minor cuts, authorities said.
Scott, who was among the firefighters who battled the blaze, and Clamp were being held Tuesday in the Columbus County Jail under $1 million bonds. Turner was being held under a $2 million bond.
