Fire in the Triangle: Sono vs. Flights recap

Another close one last night during the Fire in the Triangle competition.

Sono chef Michael Lee took on Dean Wendel of Flights in the "Iron Chef" style match-up held at 1705 Prime.

First course: Open Faced Dumpling of Lobster with Crustacean Infused Tomato Velvet, Crispy Wonton & Parsley Chimichurri (Sono)

Second course: Flash Fried Spring Roll with Spicy Shrimp & Orange Lemon Cream (Sono)

Third course: Grilled Smoked Rabbit with Pomegranate Barbecue, Collard Greens & Fried Noodle Cheese (Flights)

Fourth course: Open Faced Egg Roll Ravioli with Pulled Pork Porcini, Asparagus Tips, Truffle Mashed Potatoes & Shaved Radish (Flights)

Fifth course: Soy Braised Pork with Beet Infused Sweet Potato Puree, Crispy Wonton & Iced Green Onion Salad  (Sono) 

Sixth course: Wonton Pistachio Crusted Blackberry Cake with White Chocolate, Strawberry Sherbet & Pistachio Wonton Cigarette (Flights) - Highest scoring dish of the night.

Wendel will take on the winner of tonight's final first round battle between Christopher Hill of The Oxford and Jimmy Reale of Chapel Hill Country Club. The two will face off on July 17.

Fire in the Triangle is part of the Got to Be NC competition dining series. The winner from the Triangle will go on to the "final four" to compete against the winners of the Fire on the Rock, Fire on the Dock and Fire in the Triad competitions. The Rock and Dock winners have been selected, and the Triad competition is coming up in August and September. The last chef standing wins $2,000 and the coveted red chef’s jacket. The runner-up will get $500.
