Fire erupts at Fayetteville apartment

Firefighters were battling a blaze at a Fayetteville apartment Monday night that displaced several tenants.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Firefighters were battling a blaze at a Fayetteville apartment Monday night that displaced 19 tenants.

A firefighter was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for an injury sustained when he entered the building, authorities said. The extent of the injury and his condition were not immediately available, but authorities said he was conscious and alert when taken to the hospital.

The fire happened just before 6 p.m. at Carriage Hills apartments at 2109 Elvira St. It took Fayetteville firefighters about 45 minutes to bring the blaze under control.

Five of the eight units in the two-story building were damaged, authorities said.
