WAKE FOREST, N.C. — A construction worker was being treated for smoke inhalation Monday afternoon after a fire broke out at the new Town Hall under construction in Wake Forest.

A welder’s torch ignited roofing insulation around 1:30 p.m. causing a fire, Wake Forest Fire Chief A.E. Lynn said. The fire eventually spread to the roof decking, but was contained before causing further damage to the facility.

The construction worker was transported by ambulance to WakeMed for treatment. His name was not released.

Construction of the new Wake Forest Town Hall began last summer and is expected to be completed this fall.
