FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Cumberland County authorities were investigating the accidental knife wounding of a Reid Ross Middle School student on a school bus Thursday afternoon.

Twin brothers riding home from school on bus No. 200 were showing off a pocket knife with a 3-inch blade when a girl sitting in front of them tried to grab the knife and give it to the bus driver, authorities said.

During the ensuing struggle, the girl let go and one twin fell backward with the knife, cutting his brother on the forehead, authorities said.

The 11-year-old was taken to Womack Army Medical Center for treatment of the 2-inch cut, authorities said.

Authorities said the case will be referred to juvenile detectives to determine whether any charges will be filed.
