Fiery wreck kills two in Wayne County

State troopers said that a southbound Ford Focus crossed the center line and struck an oncoming Toyota vehicle around 9:30 p.m. on U.S. Highway 117, between Stuckey and Edmundson Springs Road. The vehicles caught on fire.

The driver of the Toyota, Donna Jeane Braman, 53, of Lucama, died in the wreck, troopers said. James Richard Golvan, 51, of Summerville, South Carolina, who was driving the Ford Focus, also died. He was identified Sunday evening.

Troopers said speed was a factor in the crash.

Braman was driving home from church in Fremont, her husband said.

"She had left me a voicemail and it got deleted, not realizing that would be the last time I heard from my wife," said James Braman.

Ed Pridgen, a tow truck driver, lives nearby and heard the crash, which he described as a "loud boom."

When he got to the scene, he saw Golvan trapped inside his car.

"It was an inferno. I mean, a real inferno," Pridgen said.

James Braman said his heart goes out to Golvan's family and he knows that his wife would have been praying for them, too.

"That's the kind of person she was," he said.
