Feds Check Wilson County's ADA Compliance

Wilson County is under investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice after a local man complained about the handicapped access to several public buildings, authorities said.

WILSON, N.C. — Wilson County is under investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice after a local man complained about the handicapped access to several public buildings, authorities said.

David DiFilippo presented a letter to the county manager and the county Board of Commissioners in January, demanding that the county comply with federal laws by providing access for handicapped and disabled citizens under the Americans With Disabilities Act. His complaint showed concern with physical aspects of the Nash Street Office Building, Wilson County Courthouse and Miller Road Office Building.

DiFilippo later filed a complaint with the Justice Department. County officials said they would examine the complaint and also look at other public buildings to ensure they comply with the ADA.
