RALEIGH, N.C. — A man wanted for robbing a Raleigh bank last week is also suspect in four other bank robberies across the state, authorities said Monday.

Raleigh police are working with the Charlotte division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Asheville Police Department and Buncombe County Sheriff's Office to find Clyde Allen Nixon.

Police said they believe Nixon, 60, used a handgun to rob the PNC Bank at 2412 Wycliff Road around 4 p.m. Thursday. A female companion was waiting for him outside the bank, police said.

She is described as being in her mid 30s, with long, dark brown or black hair.

Before the PNC robbery, authorities believe Nixon robbed a Wells Fargo bank in Asheville on Feb. 9, an RBC Centura bank in Buncombe County on Feb. 24, a First Citizens Bank in Asheville on March 20 and a First Bank in Candler on March 30.

Nixon, who has family throughout North Carolina and South Carolina, is believed to be armed and dangerous. He was recently seen in Buncombe, Carteret, Craven, Gaston and Mecklenburg counties, police said.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts should call 911 or Raleigh Crime Stoppers at 919-834-HELP.
