FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Frederick Smith learned Friday afternoon that Fayetteville police had made an arrest in the death of his daughter.

Denika Jones, 26, was missing for more than a week when a man walking through some woods off Gregory Street on Wednesday afternoon found her remains. Her boyfriend, Tommy Loren Webb, 35, was found shot to death on May 15 inside his home on Gardenia Avenue.

The man arrested Friday, Danny Lee Jones Jr., 27, of Dandridge Drive, was charged with the murder of both, and one count of first-degree kidnapping. Police said was in federal custody for a probation violation when the new charges were added.

Danny Jones isn't related to Denika Jones, her family said.

Smith could not imagine what led to the crime. "She was a real loving person," he said. "She smiled, made friends everywhere. All the kids in the neighborhood loved her. She wouldn't harm a flea."
