Fayetteville slaying suspects arrested in Louisiana

U.S. marshals arrested Xavier Christian Freeman, 20, of Harriman Court in Cameron, and Willie James Dean Jr., 20, no address listed, Saturday on charges of first-degree murder, armed robbery and conspiracy in the June 18 death of Jeremy Lockett, 25, of Fayetteville.

Freeman and Dean were placed in the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center, pending extradition to Cumberland County.

A third suspect, Charles Calvin Bush, 30, of the 1200 block of Lands End Drive in Fayetteville, is being held in the Cumberland County jail under the same charges.

Lockett and another man were sitting in a car parked outside Quality Cigars in the Strickland Bridge Center Shopping Center, police said, when two men got into the backseat, tried to rob them and then shot Lockett.

Bush surrendered to police on June 27, and detectives developed information that Freeman and Dean had traveled to Louisiana, police said.

Bush was convicted in 2005 of three counts of armed robbery, four counts of felony breaking-and-entering and two counts each of breaking-and-entering motor vehicles and larceny after breaking-and-entering, according to state Division of Adult Correction records. He served 3½ years in prison.
