Woman dies after being shot in the head in Fayetteville

Police were called for a report of a shooting to the 1100 block of Southern Avenue around 4:25 p.m.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A woman died on Sunday after being shot in the head in Fayetteville.

Police were called for a report of a shooting to the 1100 block of Southern Avenue around 4:25 p.m.

When they arrived, police said they found Nicoda Melvin, 21, in critical condition inside a house.

She was taken to a local hospital for treatment, where she later died from her injuries.

Police did not release information about a suspect in the shooting.
