Man's body found in Cape Fear River

Fayetteville police were searching Saturday for a person last seen in the Cape Fear River near the Person Street bridge.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Fayetteville police found a man's body Saturday after hours of searching for a person in the Cape Fear River near the Person Street bridge.

Police said 47-year-old James Earl McDonald was seen in the water at about 12:30 p.m. and "appeared to be in distress." Authorities said McDonald leaped from the bridge and died as a result of his injuries.
