FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The Fayetteville Police Department on Monday identified the officer who struck and killed a pedestrian with his patrol car late Saturday.

Officer Phillip Burlingame was traveling on Grove Street toward Eastern Boulevard at about 10:45 p.m. Saturday when a man stepped in front of his cruiser and was struck and killed, police said.

Police said they have identified the victim, who didn't have any identification on him, but they withheld the man's name until they could notify his relatives.

Burlingame has been placed on administrative duty pending the results of internal investigations.
