Fayetteville police drug overdose program credited with saving life
A program equipping Fayetteville police officers with medicine that reverses drug overdoses is credited with saving a man's life on Tuesday, the department said.

Officers responding to the 6400 block of Cliffdale Road found an unconscious man in a vehicle, authorities said. A woman with the man told officers he had a history of using opioid-based narcotics, police said.
“Officer Donnie Smith of the Cross Creek District arrived to the scene and administered a dosage of Naloxone to the patient within seconds after his assessment,” the department said in a statement. “Within five minutes of the medication being administered, the male subject regained consciousness. The quick action of Officer Smith and the availability of Naloxone can be attributed to saving a life.”
About 400 Naloxone kits were recently donated to the department by Kaleo Pharmaceuticals through a partnership with the North Carolina Harm Reduction Coalition.
