RALEIGH, N.C. — A Fayetteville man was sentenced to 4 to 8 years in federal prison, followed by 10 years supervised release, after pleading guilty to possessing child pornography, federal prosecutors announced Wednesday.

Franklin Wade Meares, whose last address was 4217 Oakmont Circle, was arrested by Cumberland County deputies in October 2012 after an undercover investigation revealed that Meares was distributing child pornography from his computer through peer-to-peer software.

Over 12,000 images of children under 12 engaged in sexual activity was found on his computer, prosecutors said.
