A Fayetteville man pleaded guilty Wednesday to killing Canada geese in June, authorities said.

<b>FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.</b> — A Fayetteville man pleaded guilty Wednesday to killing Canada geese in June, authorities said.

Roy Bernard Goforth Jr. was fined $100 and ordered to pay $2,500 to replace 20 geese after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge of unlawful taking Canada geese.

The geese were found dead on June 2 near a Cumberland County pond. An investigation by the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission concluded that Goforth had poisoned the geese with a pesticide.

Wildlife officers cited Goforth Wednesday, and his attorney asked for an immediate court hearing, authorities said.

“He had a right to a speedy trial, and he got one,” Wildlife Commission Sgt. Kent Barefoot said in a statement.

According to the Danville Police Department, officers received a tip of prior animal abuse at a pet grooming store on Hairston Street in Danville. In the complaint, a video showed the employee, identified as 22-year-old Cassidy Gill, striking a dog in January and February. The video in the complaint was shared with other social media accounts, including PETA.
