Fayetteville man gets decades in prison for break-in, rape

A Fayetteville man has been sentenced to 56 to 70 years in prison for a 2014 burglary and rape, authorities said.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A Fayetteville man has been sentenced to 56 to 70 years in prison for a 2014 burglary and rape, authorities said.

William Yates, 36, of 112 Brookwood Ave., was convicted last Friday of first-degree rape, two counts of first-degree sex offense, first-degree kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, assault on a female, communicating threats, felony breaking and entering and assault by strangulation.

Authorities say Yates broke into woman’s home through a window, attacked her and threatened her with a knife.
