FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A 19-year-old Fayetteville man has been charged with sex crimes involving a 14-year-old girl, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.

Charles Kevin Edwards, of 2322 Ireland Drive, is accused of engaging in sexual activities with the girl between Aug. 1 and Aug. 31 at his home.

Edwards was being held under a $100,000 bond in the Cumberland County Detention Center on Monday afternoon.

Edwards is charged with statutory rape, statutory sex offense and multiple counts of taking indecent liberties with a minor.

Investigators said a medical examination by a physician concluded there was evidence of sexual activity. However, Edwards said he never had sexual relations with the victim.
