Fayetteville man charged with breaking into school
Cumberland County sheriff’s detectives arrested a Fayetteville man Sunday and charged him with breaking into Westarea Elementary School to steal audio equipment.
Posted — UpdatedAuthorities charged Malcolm Jamal Jacobs, 22, of 832 Lakecrest Drive, with breaking and entering and attempted larceny.
Investigators say a silent alarm inside the school alerted officers that someone had gained entrance to the rear section of the building. When detectives arrived, they saw Jacobs climb out of a broken window, officials said.
A foot chase began and a detective followed Jacobs to his home where he was found hiding in a storage building.
Authorities took Jacobs to the Cumberland County Detention Center where he was released on a $2,000 unsecured bond. He was scheduled to make a first court appearance at 2:30 p.m. Monday in the Detention Center Courtroom.
Authorities say someone else broke into Westarea Elementary School on Sunday around 10:48 a.m. No arrests have been made.
