Fayetteville councilmen burglarized

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Two Fayetteville city councilmen were the victims of burglaries in the same day.

Councilman Ted Mohn’s home, on Bone Creek Drive, was burglarized around midday Tuesday, police said. No one was home at the time.

A shotgun, PlayStation game console and two TV sets were taken, according to a police report. In total nearly $3,000 worth of items were stolen.

Late Tuesday night, thieves busted a front window of Hurst Annaho Supply Company, 133 Grove St., and took several items. The business is owned by Councilman Bobby Hurst.

Hurst said two power drills, each worth about $360, were taken.

On Wednesday, Hurst replaced the window and moved the remaining power tools away from view.

Police have made no arrests in either burglary.

Both men have been on the council since 2007. Neither believes he was targeted in the burglaries.

The burglaries come at a time when the city is dealing with rising crime rates and the decision of whether to hire 36 additional police officers.

The city council held a public hearing on the budget last night.
