Faulty pump causes diesel spill in Fayetteville creek

Ron Lewis, battalion commander for the Fayetteville Fire Department, said about 500 gallons of low-grade diesel spilled from the city's bus terminal refueling center at 455 Grove St. and into Cross Creek.

Crews on Tuesday put an absorbent boom into the creek to prevent drainage into the Cape Fear River.

Lewis said the fuel has been contained and only a small amount made it into the river.
