EFLAND, N.C. — Orange County deputies said Wednesday that they have arrested a father and son in an eight-year-old unsolved homicide.

Jerry Wayne Sawyers, 67, and Christopher Ray Sawyers, 29, were charged Tuesday with first-degree murder in the death of Charles Sidney Lloyd.

Lloyd, 47, was found beaten in his Efland home on Sept. 24, 2007, and he died at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Orange County Sheriff Charles Blackwood said the investigation had stalled until last fall, when new information surfaced that led investigators to undiscovered evidence linking the Sawyers to the crime. He declined to elaborate on the tip or the new evidence, saying the investigation is ongoing.
