Father relieved, saddened over arrest of mother in Cary baby's death

Kenneth Lacy, who lives in Florida, said he learned about his son's death through a friend.

"It's like my heart is cold. My heart is cold," he said. "And what makes it even colder is that the day that I met my son was on his deathbed."

Shenequa Lashan Walker, 33, was arrested and charged Sunday with child abuse - willful act or omission causing serious bodily injury and involuntary manslaughter in the death of Antonio Jones.

Jones was found unresponsive on March 3 inside Walker's Praxis Way home after she contacted emergency dispatchers, according to a 911 recording.

Walker said she woke up to her son not breathing, "looking coldish" and bleeding from his nose. The dispatcher directed her to perform CPR on the baby.

Paramedics arrived about seven minutes later. The baby was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lacy said he doesn't know what happened to the child but said he contacted child protective services while the couple lived in Florida because he believed Walker was going to work at night and leaving the children unattended.

The estranged couple also have a 2-year-old son who has been in foster care in North Carolina since Jones' death. Lacy said he is trying to get custody of the child.
