A father was arrested early Wednesday and charged with shooting his son, authorities said.

<b>GARNER, N.C.</b> — A father was arrested early Wednesday and charged with shooting his son, authorities said.

Shortly after midnight, passing motorists found a stopped van and two men lying on the edge of U.S. Highway 401 near Garner. Witnesses said one of the men said he was shot.

Pedro Julio OrtIz Jr., 33, was taken to WakeMed for surgery. He was listed in stable condition.

Pedro Julio OrtIz Sr., 58, is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. He is being held in the Wake County Jail on a $10,000 secured bond.
