<b>FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.</b> — Police on Friday charged the father of a toddler who shot herself with a loaded gun in her Glen Allen Road home.

James Alton Pergerson, 32, faces a charge of failing to store a firearm to protect a minor.

Investigators said the 2-year-old girl repeatedly shot herself in the leg on Thursday morning. They did not disclose what type of gun was used.

Pergerson brought the toddler to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where she was treated and released.

Officers ruled that the shooting was accidental.
