Family tradition steeped in NC State Fair

Whether it’s the new food, rides or exhibits, visitors have a reason to visit the North Carolina State Fair.

“We really enjoy the food, of course, and we like to see the exhibits they have,” said Kimberly Hargrove.

The fair has become a place of education and agriculture. The junior livestock auction generated more than $160,000 last year.

Mason Blinson, who has been visiting the State Fair for as long as she can remember, auctioned off her steer for $20,000 on Saturday evening.

Fair coordinator Brian Long said the fair is doing exactly what it’s designed to do, bring a diverse crowd to enjoy the festivities.

“You get all types of folks from all walks of life that come to the fair, and it’s great to see,” Long said. “It’s great to see that they have that in common.”
