Family: Man killed outside Fayetteville bar would want suspects 'forgiven and saved'

First Place Auto wash was intended to be a front to deal drugs 19 years ago, but Joseph Hinton and Matt Mansfield said that changed when their father did.

Michael Mansfield was a drug addict turned born-again Christian and the business became a front of a different kind- selling Jesus.

“He would always tell us why he was doing it. He was doing it for Jesus,” Hinton said.

Recently, family members learned what his business meant to thousands of others.

“I knew he liked doing for a lot of people, but I did not know he had that big of an impact on Fayetteville,” Matt Mansfield said.

Not far from where Michael Mansfield served the customers, he served the community.

“He’s helped them out, he has a ministry back there in the back,” Matt Mansfield said of the business. “They fed the homeless and did services back there every day of the week.”

Michael Mansfield, 52, was beaten to death outside a bar near his car wash Sunday night.

“I guess things got heated and went the wrong way,” Matt Mansfield said. “My whole world is in a daze right now and I still don’t understand it.”

Hubert Underwood II, 37, and Steven Rosser, 26, are charged with Michael Mansfield’s murder.

“Mike would have just wanted them forgiven and saved,” Hinton said.

Matt Mansfield and Hinton said that even though Michael Mansfield is gone, the car wash will remain in the business of helping others.

“I am not changing nothing at all. It’s going to stay just like it is,” Matt Mansfield said.

Services for Michael Mansfield are planned for later this week.
