Shooting, traffic accident
RALEIGH, N.C. — A Raleigh man hit by a car while walking last week has died.

Police said Darius Ferebee, 23, was seriously injured Thursday night when he was hit by a car on Rock Quarry Road. On Friday, his family made the decision to take him off life support.

Relatives hope Ferebee will be remembered for his warm, welcoming personality and his willingness to help others.

“He was very friendly, especially to the elderly. He would always take out the trash or things they weren’t able to do. I love him and I hope and pray he knew I loved him. I didn’t get a chance to tell him,” said Ferebee’s mother, Fonda Ferebee.

Police said the driver who struck Ferebee stayed on the scene. The driver was not charged and police said they do not believe he was at fault.

Ferebee’s funeral is scheduled for Saturday in Elizabeth City.
