Family, friends gather to remember slain Durham teen

Kelton Breshon Fox, 17, Hall's ex-boyfriend, is charged with her murder.

According to Durham Police Chief Jose Lopez, Hall was last seen alive with Fox in security video from Charles E. Jordan High School on March 27.

More than 50 people attended the service Saturday at the Vintage Church in Durham.

Though everyone came to pray and express their love for Hall, there were also some smiles and laughs as classmates remembered their time together.

"We used to go swinging almost every night," said Hall's best friend, Amya Wilson. "That was just our thing, we went swinging and we talked about stuff."

Purple balloons, symbolizing hope and healing, were released at the end of the service in the teen's honor.

"God, I pray that you would heal the hearts of the family in Texas, and I pray that you would heal the hearts of friends who are here," said pastor Aaron Anderson.

Tamica Hargro, a family friend said even with the prayers, the healing will not come easy for Koteya Hall, mother of the slain teen.

"She just hasn't been able to go in her room yet. She is just not ready for that," Hargro said. "She was a very quiet, beautiful, beautiful spirit, young lady, very, very loving."

Prosecutors said Wednesday they are seeking a grand jury indictment against Fox. If convicted, he is not eligible for the death penalty because he is under the age of 18.
