Extreme Mammals opens at Raleigh musuem Saturday

The exhibit, which comes from the American Museum of Natural History, features the biggest, smallest and most amazing animals that have roamed the earth. We're talking creatures with a four-ton tongue or a bumblebee-sized bat and other variations that are considered normal or average.

The exhibit at the downtown Raleigh museum offers several hands-on activities, including a matching game, a chance to make some "mammal music," a shell that kids can crawl through and other pieces.

Saturday's grand opening celebration also will offer some special activities, including a chance to see live animals (which will only be there during the grand opening) and hear from experts about the world of unusual animals. The grand opening celebration is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday.

Admission is $15 for adults; $10 for children (3-12); and $13 for students, seniors and military. It's free for museum members.
